Day One: Tahoe

Our first day on the road started bright and early at 8am.  Z had been threatening a leave time of 4am or 5am, thankfully he was tired out from his weekend camping trip.  We took Highway 20 all the way to Tahoe and stopped in Emerald Bay for some swimming and hiking.  This was Z's first time to Tahoe and he was BLOWN away by the lake.  I've visited Tahoe my whole life but seeing it fresh through Z's eyes made me re-realize just how beautiful and amazing the lake really is.

I have never seen a lake as strikingly blue as Lake Tahoe, it's saphaire blue, crystyal clear, and choppy like an inland lake.

After hiking around the lake we headed for Reno, NV and the Grand Sierra Resort Hotel.  Z's couponing/deal finding coworker had told him about this "free hotel room" deal and we were able to get a free night at the GSR.  We had a beautiful view East of the Mountains from our room.  Like everything in Nevada (from gas stations to restaurants to groccery stores) the hotel was also a casino and we signed up for the players club and promtly lost our $5 free play on Lord of the Rings Slots.
There was an all you can eat Sushi restaurant that we went to and Z ate his fill.  Sushi is a work of art.  I may not like it but the colors and the textures and the presentation is always so beautiful.  Someday I will like Sushi, someday...
